OBI 2.0

Designed and engineered by the Open Bike Initiative, the OBI 2.0 Smart Box and it accompanying software,  represent the next evolutionary leap in bike sharing technology. In contrast to traditional, third-generation, bike sharing systems such as Citi Bike in NYC, a fleet of bikes outfitted with OBI’s 2.0 technology do not require costly docking systems, can be located and reserved before riding, are completely scalable and can track a participants usage statistics in real-time, providing organizations, universities and municipalities with valuable data.

While still in the alpha stage of development, the Open Bike Initiative plans to open-source both the hardware and software designs behind the 2.0 smart box so that makers and tinkerers can continue to innovate and push bike sharing technology forward.
